Ballar Sol És Un Pal at Mercè Arts de Carrer
The Mercè Major Festival of 2025 served as the setting chosen by Cia. Moveo to take an important step in our line of creation: the premiere of the spectacle-workshop “Ballar Sol és un Pal” (Dancing Alone is a Drag/Pain).
This new project, directed and guided by Stéphane Lévy, found its first audience at Mercè Arts de Carrer (MAC), specifically in the Parc de la Trinitat, on September 27th and 28th. For us, this event is not an endpoint, but the initial journey of a project whose central focus is connection with the audience.
We are extremely satisfied to have completed this first public immersion. The warmth of the people and their willingness to engage in the game confirms that we are moving in the right direction: opening physical theatre to new formats and new audiences.
The Value of the Hybrid Format: Fiction, Play, and Workshop
“Ballar Sol és un Pal” is born from our research into group dynamics and the invisible wall that often exists between the spectator and the performer. From Cia. Moveo, we wanted to break down this wall in a playful and honest way.
The format of the show is a deliberate mix of:
- Fiction and Physical Theatre: We use the language of the body to create an emotional narrative about disconnection and the need for encounter.
- Activation and Participatory Workshop: We invite the audience to leave their seats—literally—and become part of the action.
This fusion does not seek the technical perfection of the participants, but rather catharsis and free expression. The result is a space where movement ceases to be something that is watched and becomes something that is lived in common. The goal is not to dance well, but to dance together.
A First Encounter with Diverse Audiences
The Parc de la Trinitat proved to be the perfect environment for this first contact. The nature of Arts de Carrer festivals guarantees a highly diverse audience, which we value enormously.
We had the opportunity to work with:
- Families looking for a fun and different weekend activity.
- Spectators who may have never attended a piece of physical theatre before.
- Lovers of movement and dance interested in the Moveo methodology.
Observing this diversity of people, of all ages and backgrounds, breaking their initial distance to mix and move spontaneously, was the greatest reward. The encounter with the public is not just a part of the show; it is its heart.
A Future in Motion
The first step is always the most important. With “Ballar Sol és un Pal,” we have opened a new line of experimentation for Moveo, focusing on creating pieces that are not only performed, but actively shared.
